Camp Half-Blood Collective: A PJO Zine
Camp Half-Blood Collective: A PJO Zine
This project is hosted by @chbupdates and @demigodwablog.
CHB Collective is a project dedicated to illustrating demigod lives at Camp Half-Blood over the course of an entire year. So much of what we’ve seen of camp life is lost within crazy quests or looming prophecies. But for most campers, life wasn’t always on the edge of a tragedy. Never dull but still beautifully mundane—this zine is what happens at Camp Half-Blood beyond the pages of the books. Who are our favorite half-bloods when they’re not bracing for war? And who did we barely meet?A journal appears on your cabin bunk. What do you put in it that best represents your life at CHB? We’re looking for drawings, stories, diary entries, comics, poems, doodles, collages, playlists, recipes, do’s and don’ts, how to guides, wardrobes, lyrics, and anything else you can think of that would best represent a character of your choice or you at Camp Half-Blood.

When creating art for this zine we want to see the things a demigod sees during a period of calm (however brief it may be). What does a day off look like? What does the fire burning off from the fire pit look like as it glows against the faces of campers after a long day of work? Show us the small
things. Show us the big things. Everything a demigod does and experiences is a part of their story and we want to see it all. When creating your pieces, whether it is OC or a canon character, everything must be canon compliant. Deciding the timeline of events happening within the piece is necessary. Fact check if needed. What we want to see:

We want you to really get into the mind of your OC/canon character* and tell us about a day in their life when they aren’t being hunted by monsters or on a deadly quest trying to please their godly parent. We want the small details that go overlooked into what makes this character a demigod. How do they
wake up in the mornings? Do they bake or cook in their free time? What do they do to prepare for the bonfire? What’s their least favorite chore? Their favorite? We want to see it all! What we want to see:

CHB COLLECTIVE FAQ
You’ve got questions and we’ve got answers!_______________________Q: What is a Zine?A: A zine is a self-made mini magazine that showcases like-minded individual’s ethos through creative means. The CHB Collective is a fan-made zine focused on the lives of characters created by Rick Riordan to showcase art and written works made by the PJO fandom!_______________________Q: You said “everyday, over the course of an entire year.” Does that mean 365 pages?A: Yes, as many pages as we’re capable of. We know assembling a 365 page zine is a daunting task. But it is possible. We are going to try our best to cover as many days as we can, but the odds of achieving 365 will depend on how many people can participate._______________________Q: So a page per person? That’s 365 people!A: We hope that participants will be willing and able to take on multiple pages, but it’s not required! Our main goal is to cover as much time in the year as possible._______________________Q: I want to contribute, but I have no idea what to apply for.A: That’s ok! This project is flexible when it comes to page content. If you have an idea that isn’t listed anywhere on the page, feel free let us know on the application form._______________________Q: I really want to make something for (insert favorite character here) and it’s the only thing I want to do. Can I have it?A: All decisions regarding which character pages are made by who will be determined by the mods. You are welcome to request a character on the form, but that doesn’t guarantee you will get them. We will try to honor as many requests as we can but by applying, you understand that you may not end up making a page for the character you’re asking for._______________________Q: I really want to make something for (insert favorite day here) and it’s the only thing I want to do. Can I have it?A: All decisions regarding who creates for what day will be determined by the mods. You are welcome to request a day on the form, but that doesn’t guarantee you will get it. We will try to honor as many requests as we can but by applying, you understand that you may not end up making a page for that day._______________________Q: I don’t have/can’t download Discord. Can I still join?A: Discord is required to participate in the zine. It is the easiest and most efficient platform to use for this kind of project._______________________Q: If the zine is in character, where does it fall on the Riordanverse timeline?A: CHB Collective takes place between the Trials of Apollo and The Court of the Dead._______________________Q: So if the zine is happening way after the events of the first series, does this mean I can’t make a page for a canonically deceased character?A: Not necessarily! You are welcome to make a page dedicated to a deceased character. This could be something done by the deceased character that was put into the journal by someone living. It can also be a tribute to the deceased character._______________________Q: Wait, what about characters who are alive but not at Camp Half-Blood?A: Participants are welcome to make pages about characters who canonically do not live in Camp Half-Blood. Camp Jupiter characters will be visiting CHB so they can have a presence in the zine._______________________Q: Does that mean I can make something for the Kane Chronicles or Magnus Chase characters too?A: Unfortunately for organizational sake, this zine will only feature characters from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the Heroes of Olympus series, and the Trials of Apollo series._______________________Q: OCs are allowed?! So can I make a page for my Poseidon kid OC?A: OCs are allowed but they must be canon compliant. OC backstories, relationships, and roles within the Riordanverse must match what Rick has established in the novels. This means that OCs who are children of the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades) or other canonically childless gods (Hera, Hestia, Artemis) will not be permitted. Other exclusions may apply and will depend on mod discrepancy.
